MISS FEBRUARY 1991 Introducing Annie Potter Founder and President of Annie's Attic, Inc. Annie Potter is recognized by America and acknowledged in Europe as the world's master of crochet. As the creator of Annie's Attic, Inc. the most expansive crochet mail-order company in North America, she has earned the respect of needlecrafters, artists and collectors alike. In the contemporary world, her name, her works and her originality impact like no other designer's. Her story is about talent and opportunity combined with determination and gratitude. In a recent interview, Annie explained that it all began during her childhood in Kansas. "Mom spent hours crocheting, I spent hours watching her, it fascinated me even at the young age of five. I learned to crochet before I could read the patterns by watching my mother. By the time I reached eight I began to design my own patterns. I was never satisfied with the dime-store patterns as they were. So I crocheted them the way I saw them in my mind's eye, they were different, they became my own creations." Creativity is Annie's gift to life. As an adult, she began to design professionally. Then from a simple mail-order ad in a needlecraft magazine, ANNIE'S ATTIC was born. From kitchen table, she, her family and friends began to fill the thousands of orders that arrived day after day. After the original advertisement came another, and another and another. Then a catalog. Then a magazine called Annie's Pattern Club, followed by another entitled Annie's Crochet Newsletter. Today, ANNIE'S ATTIC involves over a million people, all dedicated to sharing crochet. Although Annie buys designs from people all over the world, she continues to create and publish many of her own patterns. Her company is more than a multi-million dollar needlecraft enterprize nestled in the small southern town of Big Sandy, Texas. It's a cluster of Victorian homes-a bed and breakfast, a tea room and gift shop that is visited by thousands of people every year! Bed doll requires special crocheted pillow form.
